With Manse’s 3rd birthday right around the corner (…seriously, where does the time go?), I thought I’d revisit his 2nd birthday party! After having his 1st birthday plans ruined by the weather, I wanted to go all out with this one. His obsession at the time was Disney’s Cars (still is, really) and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. It took months to plan, but overall it was pretty simple and everything I could’ve hoped for for my little guy!
The difficult part was figuring out how I was going to surprise him while he was in the house. I put him down for a nap shortly before decorating (thankfully, he didn’t fight this time). My family took turns with Noémie so I could get the job done, and I finished JUST in the nick of time! I will never forget the pure joy on his face when he came out into the living room and saw it all. It was something to this effect:
A few weeks prior, I came across a Cars birthday sign on Etsy and ordered the digital file immediately. The day before his party, I ran to my local Office Depot and had them convert it into a poster for me. I stayed up for hours that night, blowing up balloons for the arch that would go above the cake table. I never actually finished; my 4-month-old still demanded a lot of my attention throughout the night. But I’m proud of the outcome and how it all came together.
The cake was a hit and I couldn’t thank my baker enough for bringing my ideas to fruition. To add a bit of flair, I found and ordered 3 mini racers on Amazon from Manse’s favorite of the movies (Cars 3) and placed them right on top. That way, he could play with them after the party. The cookies were custom-made by a mama I found within a local mommy group.
Aside from the cake and cookies, all other treats were prepared by me, including the traffic light Rice Krispies treats and Oreo cheesecake truffles. The fruit skewers were meant to represent traffic lights, too, hence the watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe worked perfectly.
Good fun was had with family and friends. Thankfully this time around there was nothing more than a sprinkle outside, and the kids loved running around in it. The birthday boy had his cake (and ate it, too)! He couldn’t stop smiling, laughing, and screaming for joy — he definitely knew this day was all about him.
Unfortunately, with the coronavirus going around this year, I had to change the plans I’d originally made of spending his birthday in Orlando. But, there are still celebrations to be had and plans to be made — albeit in the house and super low-key — so long as we are healthy and safe. ♡
